Designed by Mario Bellini in ~1974, the Area 50 series entailed table, floor, and pendant lamps. Bellini's experimentation with the diffusion of light led to the textured synthetic material that defines the Area 50 series.

Having lived with this very lamp installed in my home for more than half a year, it's my pleasure to offer you my thorough and honest review. While it is difficult to choose a favorite, there are many things to love about this iteration of the Area 50. The diffusion of light through the material offers a pleasant warmth rarely seen in a pendant that isn't spherical. Beyond the shape that sets it apart from its contemporaries, it can be adjusted via the weight and pulley in a way that makes it equally suitable over a coffee table as it does your dining table. When gathered at the table, we would usually have the pendant raised and out of our headspace. After dinner, let's say you retreat to the living room (which is about 2 feet away, in my studio apartment) - leave this light on, but lower the pendant closer to table for some nearby ambience. Being able to raise and lower it at your whim is a luxury that will be hard to give up once you've experienced it for yourself... in my humble opinion! My last personal note lays in how it photographs. Perhaps this can be blamed more squarely on my iPhone 13 Pro camera than anything else, but this lamp (when lit) has always felt difficult to fairly capture with my camera. Any photo I've ever taken of them illuminated has never done them justice.

The lamp is unmarked, which is not uncommon - many lamps Artemide produced were adorned by little more than a sticker. This specific lamp came from a pair acquired together, the other of which is marked inside the shell of its pulley housing.

Includes one silver-tipped bulb as shown. Retains the original cloth cord, and I'll throw in some new Color Cord (white) with your purchase. The lamp is in good working order and can be hardwired to your typical ~modern ceiling box.
